The Hawks dominated the CBAD tournament with victories over Detroit and Chicago WSAD at the Hawks home floor at ISD’s Caskey Gym. The 92-48 victory over Detroit was the second time in two meetings while the 101-57 victory over Chicago WSAD Orange was the third time this season.
The CBAD’s inagural tournament was a seuccess with six teams participating. Also, a large number of fans from Detroit came down to Indianapolis to enjoy the day. Chicago Black Mustangs Tyrone Barnes won the raffle drawing for a 32 inch Vizio flatscreen tv.
The Hawks’ superstar guard, Robert Haney led the team with 26 points, including 20 in the first half. He had several thunderous dunks. 6’9 Edlin Dorn had 11 points and 4 blocks, mostly playing limited minutes. The Hawks swarming man to man defense effectively shut down the Orange.
Balanced scoring was the key for the Hawks – Brian Bippus 6, Keith Westhoelter 10, LeMarc Williamson 10, Onye Davis 8, Cy Saunders 8, Gerry Joseph 8, Eugene King 10, Nick Parks 4. Matt Johnson and Joe Estep were unable to attend due work conflicts.
The championship was the third tournament championship this year – the WSAD Invitations, the CAAD Tournament and now the CBAD – during the Hawks 22-9 season campaign. Next up is a trip to the USADB NAtional Tournament in Southern California the 3rd week of April to defend our 2008 National Championship.
