The USADB Boys Elite Camp is a very important part of the USADB in terms of discovering, developing and nurturing young talent. Three members of the Indy Hawks have played an important role in the Elite Camp since its inception – Keith Westhoelter, Robert Haney, Jr and Peter Badavas.

Westhoelter is the camp co-founder and its Director. He has planned the past five camps from scratch and has made every camp a very successful and educative one for those elite players involved. The camp has taken place in Washington, D.C. and Indianapolis, Indiana with Tallageda, Alabama the location last month.

Haney is the reigning USADB Most Valuable Player the past three seasons and one of the most influential camp counselors involved. Currently a Physical Education teacher and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, New Mexico – Haney is a positive role model for the Elite campers to emulate.

Badavas is a longtime Assistant Camp Director and the manager of the Indy Hawks. The Boston, Massachussets native is a Gallaudet University graduate and currently the assistant Boys Basketball Coach at the Maryland School for the Deaf. He also will be managing the USA Men’s Basketball entry to the 2009 Taiwan Deaflympics.

Many members of the Indy Hawks stay connected with the Deaf Community via involvement in various summer camp programs available in different capacities. Each Hawk emphasizes the strength and character of being a positive role model in the Deaf Community to children and campers everywhere.
